餅を丸めず引きちぎって作ったのが由来で、そんなちぎり餅を見立てて作った器です。
小さいのにどっしり重い石のような器で、床に落としてもなかなか割れないです。

Chigiri Mochi is a local Japanese confection eaten in Kyoto during the Hina Matsuri (Girls' Festival).
Its name comes from the fact that it's made by tearing the mochi (rice cake) into pieces rather than rolling it into a ball. This container is designed to resemble such Chigiri Mochi.
Despite its small size, it's a heavy, stone-like container that won't easily break even if dropped on the floor.
